Every year May 28th is celebrated as the International menstrual hygiene day and to commemorate this day, Sanitation First India and Dr John Joseph Foundation joined hand in hand in supplying sanitary napkin and nutritious food to the children at Government Girls Home, Kelly’s – Chennai. This was planned in order to make sure girls continue to have access to safe menstrual products and hygiene supplements during the pandemic. Sanitation First has been distributing these amazing products – Anti Microbial fast drying menstrual pads and Anti-microbial super towels that keep hands clean and germ free without soap and water.
The give away programme was attended by Founder of Dr. John Joseph foundation, Churchill Joseph, Mrs. Komala and Mr. Bhaskar, Child Welfare Committee Members, Nisha Kesavan, communication Officer of Sanitation first India NGO and several others from the government home including the superintendent, chief wardens. Padmapriya Baskaran thanks a bunch for this event.
The children were first briefed on what menstruation was and how to avoid the stigma attached to it around the world. They were then introduced to the reusable, non chemical cloth sanitary pads to which the girls showed great enthusiasm. The pads were shipped in from Denmark and were made of high quality cloth.
The Dr. John Joseph foundation distributed a fruit bag consisting of wide range of fruits which would be nutritious to the girls during their menstrual cycle specially. Both the organizations have agreed to continue this distribution reaching out to more and more children in the near future.
We are so thankful to Onside Soccer for their donation towards purchasing the fruits for this project.
